I should probably start one of these, before I get too far ahead of myself :icon_wink:
First S10 Blazer! 4.3L TBI V6 - 139xxx mi
The first focus will be on the interior and audio (the stereo is broken, and I'm a needy musician)
I plan to run the RC 2.5" lift kit, will get new wheels/tires and possibly a few more inches of body lift to get more clearance
For the paint, I may leave the bottom half as it is, just do a little touch up, and respray the top either the original color or something new

Driving home from a local brewery a few weeks ago with some friends in the car, my service engine soon light popped on, and I could feel a loss of power, and a hesitation at lower rpms. I pull the code, and am getting code 42. The most helpful information I could find about this was this page. According to this, code 42 will only be thrown when either the white or the tan/black wire between the ICM and the PCM is either open or grounded. I found that there was no continuity in the tan/black bypass wire, and found an unplugged connector just inside of where it goes through the firewall (I thought it strange that they would have a single wire split off from the harness into a connector and then right back in, and an ignition wire at that, anyone know the reason behind this? And right by the passenger's feet, where it could be kicked on accident). I plugged that in, but the error code and problem are still persisting. The only thing I can think of is, maybe when sticking the probes of the continuity tester into the ICM connector, I moved the contacts enough to not make contact with the prongs on the ICM... I'll check to make sure I'm getting the correct voltage in those lines. Anyone else with experience on this particular issue?

I also just replaced the fuel pump, sock, and filter, spark plugs and wires, dist cap and rotor and ICM all with AC Delco or Delphi parts except for the rotor which wasn't available anywhere so I used borg warner. Also did a coolant flush, replaced the door glass felts and rubbers with new parts from LMC truck, and have been adding interior pieces and cleaning thoroughly in there.

(2) thoughts come to mind..

1 - I noticed this is a California car. Any chance they have a different or some extra module in the ignition system due to California's emissions standards?

2 - Maybe you got a DOA ICM. DOA parts seem to be quite an annoyingly common thing over the last few years.

Outside of that, wiggle some connectors , check for pinched wires , make sure all grounds are clean and tight. I've also read that an ECM failure may cause a Code 42 as well, but I doubt that. They tend to be pretty sturdy boxes.

Could that simply be the wire that goes to the ECU.

Once disconnected it resets the ignition advance to 0 instead of the about 8 degrees with the ECU connected. A timing light could "shed light" on that. If it goes to 0 advance in idle it may be that one.

Nice Blazer - I would keep that original or with modifications that can be reverted. (if rust is not an issue) Not many 2 doors of these left.
