DIY Custom roof rack
I have a twin size old mattress box ( http://good-times.webshots.com/photo...03510336DSDgbx ) that i realized a while back would probably make a good roof rack. after i tear it down to just the wood, do you think i could add some more support (more wood, maybe metal plumbers tape) and RHINO line (or something similar) the whole frame? I'm wondering if load weight would be a problem, but with the right support should be okay, but also with the lining, would it stand up to XYZ mph wind at freeway speeds? ( i saw a mythbusers or something where they were shooting and blowing up rhino linings, and it looks pretty much bullet proof. any thoughts on all of this? btw i'm all about DIY and keeping my money mine!

you can buy pre bent pipe and connecters the most you will need is a drill and a hack saw wont cost much (rhino liner aint cheap), it will look way better and you wont have to worry about it falling apart. IMO.

Do not use wood. For one thing its going to look absolutly rediculous, and another it will more than likely not hold up for very long. And more importantly its going to look lame.

RE: DIY Custom roof rack
ah yes, that is a good idea to use it as a template, then again, no need to line it if its metal

You'll need to do something so it doesn't rust

RE: DIY Custom roof rack
should. or try electrical supply places and get conduit it's easy to bend galvenized and shouldnt cost too much but you can also get stronger pipe which will last longer for that talk to a welding supply store.
