hey everyone, new to the forum, thought i'd make a little thread with what i'm doing to my truck.

in the (almost) 4 years that i've owned it as of this posting, i've only done a CAI from Spectre on it, but this year i decided to do some lighting as well after seeing the thread Sisk made on his maritime blazer.

first i bought these new tail light housings to spruce up the backend:

those turned out pretty nicely, and im happy with the purchase. these were Spec-D Black Euro Tail Lights, which i got off of CARiD.com - Car Accessories & Parts for $70. quite a steal since a very similar looking design from InProCarWear was going to cost me $185 for what looks the exact same as i can tell.

and as of me posting this, my order for new LEDs for the gauges showed up (nice birthday gift to show up on the day it did). and these turned out as thus:

the color is fantastic, and stands out alot better than the old stock bulbs did. i liked the red most out of the options i had, because it matched both the truck's color, and the backlighting on my stereo i installed last year, so there's a nice glow of red in the dash. i want to also do the HVAC lights, but i dont know how many 37s i need to replace, since i never thought to look before reassembling the dash. if anyone happens to know on a 2001, that'd be great.

i also bought a new pair of step lights for under the dash:

i was amazed how much brighter these were once it got dark out. at least 5x brighter than the old bulbs were, and such a crisp white.

the set also had a new dome light as well:

after that was all done, the 2 red LEDs i bought at a local Canadian Tire, the "Tuner" brand they carry, were left over. i had gotten these to test out how i liked the red in the gauge lights, but these were pathetically dim in that placement since they're highly directional. dont buy these unless your using them for map lights; its all they're good for:

my next purchase will be new tail lights, backup lights, and HVAC lights if i can find out how many of those i need.

I'm not a big fan of those style tail lights, but I like what you did with the lighting, was the gauge cluster hard to do?

The Dash looks great. I just got Blue LEDs for mine, which I am using instead of my indiglo gauges.

so i got the replacement pair of tailight bulbs for the upper pair of brake lights. wow are these brighter. here's a quick clip of the turnlight flashing to demonstrate. this was taking at mid-day.

the guage cluster's pretty easy. you gotta remove the dashboard finish panels first, then there's 4 hex nut screws holding in the gauge cluster. once thats out, disconnect the cable on the top so you can remove it from the truck entirely. there's 6 grey/white colored round tabby things. give them a 1/4 turn counter clockwise and they pull out with the old bulbs in them.

the old bulbs were in these pretty good, so some got cracked or broke edges off the inserts taking them out of the tabby. not a problem since your tossing them out anyways for LEDs. if you want to make you life way easier, make sure the 194 LEDs you buy to replace these are NON polarized. if buying from superbrightleds.com like i did, all the colored bulbs are this. the whites are polarized though. this is a P.I.T.A. cause if polarized, you have to change out the bulbs while the cables connected to the gauges to see if you put them in right or not.

once your LEDs are in, just put it all back together.

i had bought this style of LED, which was actually a touch wider than the openings allowed if you leave the black plastic covering on the gauge cluster assembly.

194 LED Bulb - 5 LED Wide Angle Wedge Base | Wedge Bulbs | Specialty & Automotive | Universal LED Bulb Finder | Super Bright LEDs

if you want an easy pop-in model with a wide angle beam (which was why i bought these, but didnt think the position of the mini bulbs on the sides would be an issue), then i'd suggest a style more like this:

194 LED Bulb - 5 SMD LED Wide Angle Wedge Base | Wedge Bulbs | Specialty & Automotive | Universal LED Bulb Finder | Super Bright LEDs

or

194 LED Bulb - 9 SMD LED Wedge Base Tower | Wedge Bulbs | Specialty & Automotive | Universal LED Bulb Finder | Super Bright LEDs

The 9SMD`s don't fit..There to tall were hitting at the back of my gauge face and sticking out of the back and wouldn't lock down at all.. Just stick with the 5
SMD`s they fit great..
