Looks like a good start, gonna do anything with the pistons ?
|
New pistons are on the list. I don't really think I need them but eh, why not? Only bottom end parts I'm reusing are the rods. If I was gonna replace those I'd go with lightweight ones but they're super expensive.

why a 2.25" in n out muffler? or are you going duals?
I thought the oem was 3" in and 2.25 offset out? I would go 2.5" myself. |
When I had my catalytic converter changed out they told me to get one 2.25" in/out... so that means my OEM piping is 2.25" into the muffler, the pipe on the other side of the muffler looks to be the same size.
I'll measure before the muffler is ordered to be sure though, thanks. |

What about single in/dual out in 2.25"? I have that on mine & it sounds great but not offensive. Having a B/L helps a lot with installation if you're going to route the other out the drivers side.
Depending on the year of the blazer, I don't think a 'true dual' setup is possible. |
Ordered a 2.5" I/O. Some parts came in today according to UPS tracking, I'll check when I get home. Are the head bolts on these engines reusable? Forgot to order those but if they're not needed then I'll leave 'em out.
Also, can anyone link me to a good guide for setting cam/ignition timing? Getting the timing right is my biggest concern in this rebuild. Especially considering I've never taken an engine apart before. :P |
most headbolts are TTY (torque to yield). I would not recommend reusing them as they stretch when you tighten them.

Okay all the parts arrived except rocker arms, valve springs, and head bolts.
Honed the cylinders yesterday and will be cleaning the pistons off sometime this week to put the new rings in, then the crank can be installed. Here's the block before it was honed: https://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y6...x/IMAG0055.jpg Dirty little pistons: https://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y6...x/IMAG0072.jpg Does anyone know what type of lifters come stock in these engines? My old lifters are rollers, I thought roller lifters were more of a performance part. |
