Front end and fuel pump upgrades.
 

Hi all,
I want to share two great upgrades, I suggest for all who are interested. The first upgrade is for the front end. Power Perfomance Motorsports makes an Extreme Duty Steering and Balljoint kit for S10 Blazers. We have installed these on two Blazers now and they are amazing. We offroad these Blazers hard and these front end kits don't even break a sweat. Unless you are going to do a solid front axle, I definitly suggest this kit. $485 plus tax and shipping.

Secondly, I want to suggest the fuel pump upgrade. This is a little known treasure that will solve all of your fuel pump nightmares. After replacing four fuel pumps in my Blazer "Hillbilly Bone", I was let in on this wonderful peice of information. Granatelli Motor Sports makes a high perfomance fuel pump for Chevy's 350 camaro. It fits right into the Blazer's sending unit, electrical connections and all. Just drop the tank, pull the sending unit, open the sending unit up, pull the old pump out, and put the new one in. The shop wants $400 for a new pump and $300 to install it. This Camaro pump cost me $150 and one day of work.

You can also go to Autozone and simply purchase a pump for a 95 S10. The same concept applies, just not a high performance pump. I've been told it is around $75.

dude, the walboro 255 sells for about 80 bucks in real performance shops i.e. not auto zone or pep boys. all you have to do is switch out the sending unit in the assembly. i actually had to do this mod for a 99 camaro. p.s. if you ever have to change a fuel pump out on a camaro/firebird... dont drop the tank... just cut a hole above it with a palm grinder. saves hours of time and labor.

Thanks for the advice. Being's as I have the body lift on my Blazer and have replaced the fuel pump for times, it is fairly easy to drop the tank. The job goes much faster when you have someone to hold up the tank while bolting it back in. I've actually noticed a nice improvement on the highway with the new fuel pump. Plus it fixed my check engine light problem. I had the cam that locked the sending unit in, upside down. It was causing a vacuum leak.

yeah i agree that its WAY easier to change the pump out on a blazer versus a camaro/firebird. lol. btw i REALLY wish i knew about that front end kit b/c i just spent 500 in december replacing just the pitman arm and the idle bar. oh well, its under warranty and if it tears up again, im just going to get the gm to order that kit and me pay the difference.

so that pump worked on your '98?

and just how were you able to seperate the pump from the sending unit?

while i've messed around with the 2nd gens a bit-but no where near what i have with the 1st gens-i have yet to do a fuel pump in these.

The factory sending units are very easy to take apart. Just two clips and it slides apart. Then the few fuel pump comes with a peice of high pressure hose you need to connect. It's self explanatory once you take it apart. Keep in mind that the aftermarket sending units are designed so that they can't be taken apart. Also, I have lost about 4 miles to the gallon since installing this pump. I'm down to 10 miles a gallon now. lol
