How To: Paint your rear window trim (2 door) with pics

Okay so I've gotten a few PM's regarding how i went about painting my rear window trim on my 2 door. so i figured why the hell not put up a how to thread. (Please keep in mind that i manage a body shop that my father owns so i have access to top pro grade materials and tools. everything i describe can be done by hand and i did a lot of it by hand but i did have some power tools to speed things up and top grade paint and clearcoat so results may vary but the procedure is the same and as long as you use something like duplicolor you should be ok)
so this is what all 2 doors start out with

you can't really tell but they are all chewed up from years out in the forida sun and wherever the hell my truck had been before i bought it.

now first thing i did was i tried to use some 80 grit sandpaper to bring the roughness down a bit and give the primer and bondo/polyester filler something to bite to. DO NOT OVERSAND THIS IS 80 GRIT PAPER IT WILL RUIN THE SHAPE OF THE PANEL IF YOU ARE NOT CAREFUL!!!!!!! Just a slight rubdown by hand will do the trick (for novices i suggest using some duct tape along the edges so you dont mess up your paint. make sure to use duct tape not masking tape 80 grit will eat masking tape up)

i then went ahead and taped off the windows and area around the window and primed it. i used a spray gun but rattle can primer should do it just as well just make sure to get the equivalent to 2K high build automotive primer.

next step is to sand the first coat of primer with 180 grit sandpaper (you have to do this to get the glossyness (for lack of a better word) off the primer and give the body filler something to bite to then go ahead and using THIN coats cover and fill the holes.

i know it looks thick but i kinda messed up and spread it too thick. all you need is a thin coat to fill the holes.

sand the filler down with 180 grit paperso a smooth even surface. once all the high and low spots are taken care of go ahead and give the whole thing another sand down with 220 grit paper and reprime.

sorry i do not have any pictures of the trim in primer forgot my camera at home both days i primed (nitial pre bondo prime and then post bondo prime)

let the primer sit for about 10 minutes for it to flash and give it another coat.

now just sand the primer with 400 grit paper and paint whaever color you want.

Seeing as I live just across the state from you. I should drop my Blazer off some day, and have you do that for me, lol. You have to see mine. They look GOD AWFUL! My truck has always been in Florida, and judging by that, and the paint, the truck was kept outside pretty much all it's life.
I don't even need a pic, you can see them in my sig, lol.
