Hypertek's 2nd Gen

Wassup guys, i been lurking here for a month or so..

Just got a 99 blazer 4 door 2wd from my pops, which it was just sitting in front of his house since 07. Had running problems. Fuel pump was replaced in 07 before it sat and it was thought it had a fuel problem, turned out the MAF just needed cleaning. New spark plugs, wires, rotor and cap, windsheild , alternator and battery later and she runs like a champ.

Drove her from Kansas to Arizona, *dad moved to arizona so I had to get the truck running or have him ship it to me which would cost too much imo * then to California where I live.

Your typical blazer nothing special.

It had been sitting on old tires since 07 , those developed flat spots and dried up etc.. Needed some new tires. On a no job budget *my folks bought the tires*, went with 235/75/15 Goodyear Wrangler Radial (walmart tires). They are a little bigger than stock tires, and perhaps the cheapest tires you can get. I honestly think they look great and have done me good so far. Did 1500 miles on them so far and no problems.

They give the truck a "Beefier" look , which is what I was going for.

One of the first things I did when I got home was ditch the airbox for a leftover cone filter that I had laying around.

Works for now, i still want to go with the ebay cold air intake eventually, i might build a heat shield for this in the mean time wiht scrap metal laying around the house.

I also cut the throttle plate diffusser in half the other day.

Right now I am resealing the passenger side headlight. It had moisture in it. Took the headlight off, and put it in the oven for a little bit to heat up the glue to take it apart. In the process I broke some of the plastic, hence why I am gluing it in this picture. No biggy though, picked up some clear adhesive sealent to glue it all back together.

Since it had been sitting for a few years in front of my dads place, sun took its anger out on the paint lol.

Id like to paint the truck but I would settle for painting just the hood and fender in the mean time. Does anyone know where to source a quart of matching paint for that? I can spray it myself.

Since it had been sitting, people would always stop by my dads house and ask if he would sell it. Someone had egged the truck one time. He suspects it might have been one of the neighborhood kids who asked about the truck before, because he said later on that kid bought a bad condition blazer. Thought maybe the kid might have took his anger out on the truck or something. Anyways, there is a spot on the roof above the windshield that looks bad, maybe its the clear coat coming off from it.

If i do paint the hood and fender, think i can spot paint that portion?

The frame has some surface rust, nothing serious, just ugly. I am planing to paint the bottom with rustoleum satin black 777, cheap and effective.

BTW , this is my other car =)

I blew the engine in december so the blazer is my main transportation now til i finish the rebuild.

Looks like a fun project truck, and welcome to the forum.

finally got my intake

I think there are a few different ones on ebay.. Fitment was not perfect. The elbow needed to be trimmed.. I had to cut off some on both sides to get it to where I felt it was good. Then the bracket needed to be slotted for better alignment. One of the couplings I had to stretch it over the maf and pipe. I also scratched it up some while putting it together. No biggy. Haven't drove anywhere with it yet.

I had to mess with the brightness/contrast a little bit in this picture.. Hard to see in pictures.
Rustoleum 7777 satin black mixed with mineral spirits *look up the rustoleum paint jobs, thats basically what this is, but just on the frame and sprayed with a gun* . I also touched up the rear coil leafs too.. Looks real good.

The only problem with using a gravity feed spray gun is you cant flip it upside down. I think a spray can would have done great for this. But no biggy, the blazer looks great! Best cosmetic thing I have done to the truck yet.

Also just got a check engine light.. I suppose its from the intake. I havent disconnected the battery when i installed it, so i probably have to do that and leave it off for a while to let it reset.

I honestly think 2 inch wheel spacers would look good, it is my personal opinion, these trucks just sit too narrow .
I need to remove the trim as well

TheRandom1 07-21-2011 06:22 PM

I really don't like the look of the Blazers without the lower valence unless they have an aftermarket bumper, personally. However, other than that I like your truck. I think it'll look even better once the trim is off, good job!

hypertek 07-21-2011 09:19 PM

I was thinking about building a skid plate.. but the sway bar would be in the way. Yeah i need to rip the trim off and see how it looks.

hypertek 07-21-2011 09:31 PM

quick photoshop edit of how it will look with the trim removed
