My first project, "Helen" in honor of my grandmother

Truck is named after my grandmother that passed away last summer.

2004 Blazer LS. 4WD, just over 100k miles.

On the to-do list:
[X] fix oil issue(s)
[] repaint brush bar
[X] paint frame rails
[] t-bar and shackles
[X] shocks
[] add iphone connect-ability
[] better sounding muffler

First off, I'm dealing with an oil problem, you can keep track of that here:

Secondly, I removed the brush bar, as it needs blasted and repainted. Gonna cut off the light mounts, I don't really want them. I removed the Wal-Mart lights and ghetto wiring harness from under the hood.

I'd say sandblast that bull bar and bedliner it.... according to mythbusters if you do it'll be bombproof (if you don't watch the show you should lol)

also for iphone connectability i went with this HU

Pioneer MVH-P7300 Digital media receiver at Crutchfield.com

But if you also want handsfree and bluetooth this one will do nicely, same unit with built in BT and handsfree microphone.

Pioneer MVH-P8300BT Digital media receiver at Crutchfield.com

Good luck with the build.

Since its moving b/c of the oil issues, I took out the last of the bad wiring harness and removed the switch from the knee panels of the dash. Might leave the hole the previous owner drilled for a future project.

Is there anyway to add iPhone functionality to the stock HU? After market head units just never look right IMO

Not that I know of but I'll post up some pix of mine installed to show you what it looks like in the truck if you like.

Today I Seafoam-ed the engine. Figured since I was doing a decent amount of work on it already, and there is no point in adding clean parts (See my oil issues above) to a dirty engine. Also bought an oil system cleaner.

Other purchases today...
Castol GTX High Mileage (I just passed 101k today)
Purolater Filter
Motor Flush
Oil Lines

Btw, anybody know what this is? Noticed it this morning when I looked under the truck in the day light. Looks busted...

Is it attatched to anything? Looks like cast aluminum.

swartlkk 11-09-2011 06:28 PM

Possibly a part of the broken remote oil filter housing?

cahlersmeyer 11-09-2011 06:57 PM

Its cast alum.
And it's on the sway bar, so unlikely it has anything to do with it. Hmmm

Sorry about your grandmother. Mine just passed away this summer.

Anyway, nice project! Good luck
