My new $500 project

Picked this up yesturday for $500. 2002 cavalier ls sport. 80k, other then the light front damage its mint. Right now its in the tear down phase. Not sure what way I want to go with it yet. but will be piecing together an M62 supercharger kit off the cobalt SS. Ive owned many cars but love making something out of these j-bodies, due to the fact people see them as POS eco cars.

Nice find for $500 would make a interesting project or daily driver.

500 bucks.... if it runs... you got yourself a lil piece of easy mpg happiness

TripleBlackBlazer 08-01-2010 05:04 PM

I don't see eyelids on your old project. You can't start the new one until that's done.

Layin down the law!

Looks like a nice little pickup. I like your projects, nothing wrong with working on cheaper cars, easier to find parts for and not a big deal if you want to get rid of it.

I like those rims on the Bravada! Did you get the colour matched inserts for them yet?

haha yea the hood was in the works but ran into some mechanical problems that needed to be taken care of first. Car is going to be sold after I finish the cav.

no not yet I will have them done for next season. The wheels are coming off in a month or two anyways.

Well some updates. Tear down complete. Upper radiator support took the blow of the accident. So im going to replace it, instead of trying to bang it back into shape. Other then that its ready to be put back together. The passenger side quarter had a nice size dent in it. we popped most of it out but it cracked the paint, so its going to need some body work. Other then that the rest of body is straight.

Looks nice, and bet that thing is great for a daily driver.

Silver00LT 08-02-2010 09:46 AM

2.2 ECOTEC powerplant goodness. :)

Phil 08-02-2010 11:14 AM

Sweet! Woudl love to pick up a DD eco project like one of your cars.

84BlazerS10 08-02-2010 11:37 AM

Yeah, same I would like to pick up a small eco DD so I can turn my blazer into just a project.

CraigSnedeker 08-02-2010 11:46 AM

What a steal for $500 all you gotta do is fix a few things, and it even has a rear-bumper-lip! cool :P

Unlimitedsp 08-03-2010 01:05 PM

Craig yea the ls sport came with a factory lip kit. I have the front lip just needs alittle work. Looked like she loved to bottom out.

Not really a big update. But ordered a new upper rad support. Should come in a couple days. In the mean time i need to drill out the spot welds on the crushed.on and straighten out the mounting points a bit.

wlorton 08-03-2010 10:54 PM

So... when its done... I got $500 for it... lol jk... Should be worth a bit more... Whats the mileage on it? I wish I could do something like that....

m3ch 08-04-2010 06:52 PM

Nice j for 500 I had a 98 cav I had to get rid of it was

Yep selling the Fire.

Updates!

Tear down complete. Have all my parts in order, except for a few odds and ends.

http://i463.photobucket.com/albums/q...-25-13_100.jpg

Picked up a fiberglass SS hood for cheap, and decided to cut it up.

http://i463.photobucket.com/albums/q...0-12-53_28.jpg

Had some evo scoops laying around so decided to make it my own.

http://i463.photobucket.com/albums/q...-32-07_536.jpg

still have a little shaping todo before paint but they came out really nice.

Also found me a gem at the yard. an 03 ls sport rear bumper. been looking for one, but they are rare to find in the yard and expensive if you find one for sale. Got it for a steal, $36. Still need to find the side skirts, which are even harder to get my hands on.

http://i463.photobucket.com/albums/q...0-24-53_26.jpg

The interior is also getting a little makeover. Going to wrap the dash pad and door panel inserts with black suede. Which will go nicely with the custom wrapped black leather seats, that I had in the pontiac.

http://i463.photobucket.com/albums/q...e/IMG_1262.jpg

Should have everything I need by the end of the weekend. So i should have it back together shortly.

m3ch 08-19-2010 10:38 AM

man i wish i could find another cav, ive been looking a for a z24 or atleast a 2dr 5speed, my blazer atm is a family car so i cant go offroad much, i personally do not like the look of newer cavaliers, i personally like the 95-99's, that looks like a nice cav tho =D

Silver00LT 08-19-2010 08:50 PM

Get that body style with the 2.2 ECOTEC in it. NOT the 2.2 OHV. They introduced the new L61 engine platform into the Cavaliers before they changed the body design.

i know that, i just do not like the ecos because EVERY ONE has them, well in the "tuner" part anyway, i wanted the 2.4 with a 5 speed. i tested out a 5speed with a 2.2, probablly an eco, not going to lie they are pretty quick but still, i was running a 2.2 OHV in my 98 with a 3speed thing was a slug but it was alright........

but heres a little funny story for you...................so i was driving around and i see my friends honda civic parked at his house, and he was inside, so i go around town a gew times (my town is small only about 800-1000 people) and i come back, hes bringing something to his car, his civic is a hatchback the kind every one has ,looked like it was spray painted flat black, completely stock, except for the exhaust, so i come up from driving around, i say "your civic is garbage" he says : "Whatever, ill smoke your car" (me being in my blazer) i couldnt help but drive away laughing, then i thought, the only way he could beat me is in the top end speed, i dont know about other peoples blazers but mine slows down a little after about 70, but i laughed at him because he is a bad shifter, he HAD a dodge neon that he blew up going "130", and......the civic was my other friends honda that he crashed into a tree

Lol, I'm sorry I never understood ricer boys yeah, my blazer is slow but I don't go around bragging like it's fast but, hopefully that will all change in a year or two...I think your friend should race a real car instead of trying to race a stock suv.

Unlimitedsp 08-24-2010 01:29 PM

We got the tie bar in. Its about 90% where it needs to be. Still have a little more fitting to do, to get it straight and get everything aligned. Once thats done. Ill weld it in and start putting it back together again.

http://i463.photobucket.com/albums/q...-45-23_303.jpg

Pic of front end. Not pretty still needs alot of work. Nothing is bolted down.except the lights. Trying to get the headlight tabs on the tie bar straight. Still have some tweeking to do. Base bumper is just a temp while we get the tie bar in. It will have the lss front when done. Hood still needs to be finished. Want to have it on the road in about 3 weeks.
