Thank you sir, I thought it was a bit different than any others I have seen for these. We decided to go as light weight as possible but retain as much strength as possible(i live in deer country). All of the plate is 1/8th inch I believe, and the main structure support going into the frame is 1/4 inch angle iron. I also re-used all of the old mount points that the original bumper mounted to, including the side mounts.

alright, well I think I found a replacement engine, it is out of a 99 4door, it was in an accident that bent the frame and took out the fuse box under the hood. They are unsure of mileage because they could not get power to the odo. They are asking 400$ for the engine, and that is less than half the price that I am finding at junk yards. It was supposedly running well before the accident, so hopefully I am not getting screwed here.
Any help or insight you guys can offer is much appreciated. I have read about all the engine removal threads I could find on here. Looks like the easiest way is to first disconnect the trans and torque converter than pull the engine. I am really hoping the motor isnt seized but I am not sure yet. Anything you guys suggest I do to the new motor before I put it in, or just throw it in there and hope for the best? Thanks for any help you guys can offer. I am hoping to have this thing back up and running by this weekend, it is getting cold here and starting to snow, I need this truck for the winter. |
The S10 I bought was a writeoff, bent frame, not running. My thinking was it must of been running in order to get into the accident so it should run again, and it did.
I would just check to make sure the oil isn't milky or anything like that, might be worthwhile doing gaskets since it's out. otherwise I'd just throw it in. |

Do I need the computer? They are the same year trucks, only difference is mine is a zr2, I am sending somebody else to pick it up, and I dont think they were going to grab the computer

Not sure, but wouldnt hurt to have a spare. Then you can send one out to get tuned!

Well, my replacement engine will be showing this afternoon, and hopefully I can get it installed and up and running again by this weekend.
It sure is nice having friends and family that are able to help out in a time of need. |

Well I have my old motor out and on an engine stand. While I was waiting for parts to show up for the new one we decided to take a closer look at the bad motor to see what happened.
We also pulled the motor a bit differently than I have seen people do on these before. We pulled the motor mounts out completely than dropped the motor down as far as it would go, that allowed us to get to all the bell housing bolts, and everything on the back of the heads that needed to be removed. I didn't have to do any with the trans or mounts on it. Not sure how it happened or what caused it to happen. Interesting thing though is that it doesn't look like it has done any damage to the block, so I am hoping this thing is rebuild-able. Any ideas where I can get the rebuild specs for these motors, so that I can take some measurements to make sure things are still in spec. Any help on that part is much appreciated, hoping I can do a slow rebuild over the next 6 months to a year, and get a bit more power out of it. The new motor should be on its way back in tonight or tomorrow night hopefully. |
