So yesterday i picked up a very old and beat up 74 K5 blazer. i paid 600 for her with a set of snow tires and rims so i think it was a fair trade. it is definatly a work in progress. i mainly got it as a toy so i can stop spending money on my 96 cause its just a daily driver.

the truck has a convertible top that weighs a ton. so i need at least 4 guys to take it off. all the glass is in good condition. the truck was just muddy as hell when i got it though. it has some very bad electrical issues being that everything is wired ghetto style. there is a kill switch that shuts the engine off so i can take the key out with the engine still running. the brake lights and turn signals dont work. the body is all dinged in and has massive dents and scrapes in the passenger fender.

as for things i can start on, the carb needs some work. it took a while to get it running but after it cleared its throat it was roaring for the hour drive home. it also has no exhaust. one half of the cylinders is dumped under the bed and the other half is just open headers. the main problem is the fuel issue. the fuel lines from the tank are rusted off... so he just has a 5 gallon jug sitting in the passenger seat with some cheapo line run out the window into the engine bay to the fuel pump. it works but i will definatly have to put new fuel lines. the radiator does have a small leak too but i dont think its too big of a problem. it didnt overheat the hour drive and i dont plan on driving it much longer than that at one point and time.

i will post pictures of how it looked exactly when i got it. my phone is putting pics on my photobucket as i type but is super slow. i will be looking on ebay and summit for new parts or some mods. definatly going to put a body lift on and maybe a suspension. much cheaper than what it is for the 96 lol.

well thats all for now. im gonna be on here later in the day to put the pictures and see what you guys have ideas for. i think one guy on here has the same year so ill see if he can help me out. as always any comments are greatly appreciated and i look forward to hearing what you guys have to say.

Wow that thing looks beat! Hopefully those snow tires weren't all that expensive. Congrats no the purchase though. It'll be a fun truck for sure. I love driving mine!

Oh ok. I misunderstood then. I thought you paid $600 + a set of snow tires for the vehicle, not that the $600 bought the vehicle & an extra set of snow tires. That sounds like a better deal.

How does the underside look? That is where I lucked out with my K5. The supports under the floor were in great condition. I paid $500 for mine, put ~$300 into the exhaust with headers & pipes, $30 into the carb, dropped in an HEI distributor that I robbed from my Chevelle, & I wouldn't hesitate to drive it everyday if it were practical (8-9mpg average isn't too practical though).

And about the top, my wife & I removed the extra top from the trailer the day I picked it up. It is heavy for sure and 4 guys would make for an easy job for all. From the looks of it though, I would recommend picking the top up once unbolted front & at both side rails & placing some wood supports under it with blocks screwed to the top of the board on either side to keep the sides of the top from spreading. It already looks like the top is cracked quite badly.

yeah. so i think it was a pretty good deal. im not sure if i want to just fix it up and sell it, make some money or just keep it as a project car and maybe hand it down to my kid.... i just dont know...

Keep it! They're fun trucks for sure. Just work on the mechanical issues first while you decide the direction to take with it.

I love how it has an 80s tailgate on it. get the motor issued sorted out, if I get a chance I'll try to come down and help you rebuild the carb and run new fuel lines. After that I vote for a FF 14 bolt out back and a D60 HP up front and after that I say we build a doubler 203/205 for it!!!!! hope you got lots of cash Zack! lol :D

im not sure how the underside looks yet. all covered in mud still. i have to get out there and powerwash it as soon as i can. there is about an inch or two of mud stuck on the whole underbelly of it. lol.

eitherway im making a list of things to put on it and how much its going to cost me. ill let you know how much its all going to cost.

You are not kidding about it having a little mud under it, haha. That sucker is caked!!!

I'd toss a new wiring harness on it, new fuel and brake lines (if the fuel lines are that bad, I don't imagine the brake lines are much better) a radiator, possibly a carb (if rebuilding doesn't work) and just beat it for a while. That truck could be a lot of fun to just beat... I wish I had one.

my plans were for a carb rebuild and running all new fuel lines. redoing all the wiring because the whole thing is messed up and i can take the key out and the thing will still run untill i hit the kill switch. and the battery is always hooked up because i can turn the radio on without putting the key in.
