Project SledHead

So as some of you know I'm a typical Canuckian snowmobile buff lol.

I'm rockin 2 sleds, retiring my "collector"

The collector's item.
2003 Arctic Cat Firecat 500cc 2-stroke
Canadian Edition Graphics in Red
Only 9 were manufactured with this colour, graphics and engine combo, and because they were limited edition were only built to order. No extras were built, if you didn't order you lost out. I have had this sled since new and have busted my ass to keep it in Pristine condition.

Custom cut windshield
Red accessories, handlebar pad, rear flap, hyfax sliders. Fox float shocks with no coilovers... all air pressure
engine's stock and still beats 600cc sleds

The "Driver"
2006 Arctic Cat Crossfire 700cc 2-stroke
Nothing overly special

So far I geared it up, it was geared low for deep snow, but I geared to match the trail performance sleds. I made up bottom end by installing a larger diameter secondary clutch. For those who know snowmobiles have a "CVT" setup, and you can thank snowmobiles for your CVT's in your imports. Think of it as bicycle gearing.

Custom windshield, actually a windshield off the lake running sleds, I won't bother posting up a pic with the other windshield because it was kinda ugly lol.

What I got done tonight:
New ski on left, old on right, probably about 5 pounds lighter in each ski without that metal saddle

Old skis

http://i560.photobucket.com/albums/s...eddin00003.jpg

Old ski off
http://i560.photobucket.com/albums/s...eddin00004.jpg

http://i560.photobucket.com/albums/s...eddin00005.jpg

New vs. Old again
Left is new, you can see it's wider and more concave, better handling and deep snow flotation

Both old

New ones on

Makes me want one...

But if the snow isn't to deep, it's also a lot of fun with the blazer...

Man those things look freaking sweet. Never been on one of seen one in person, but would love to give it a shot without busting my arse someday lol. Dumb question probably, how fast do those things go?

oktain 12-15-2010 11:33 AM

The 700 will probably do anywhere between 105-110 mph... Dunno because of my mods I did lol. The long track slows it down though, it's a "Crossover", it's meant for trail and deep snow.

My 500 will do 98mph anyday, and I've seen speeds as fast as 105mph on it.

And playing in the snow with a Blazer and blasting down the lake at speeds like that sitting on a 500lb piece of machinery don't compare IMO

Yes for sure...

I`m more a ski guy, last week I hung behind a cherokee that went down the snowy roads and rode in the fields near the roads. That was really fun...

My friend's still bugging me to tow him with a waterski rope on his snowboard down the lake lmao

Steinbruchsoldat 12-16-2010 12:34 AM

Do it, that's really fun...
