I bought a reman Astro box, then took it apart and tapped it for hydro-assist. It was like 200 bucks but, in the big scheme of things, it was totally worth it to have one that wasn't worn out and leaking. I never tried to set up the steering with the stock box, but the Astro one was perfect. I know people do it with the stock one, but I wouldn't.
Sounds like you have it pretty well thought out. I figured you knew how to weld (or at least I hoped you did), since you've been doing a bunch of it already, but I know somebody would read it and say something about how you shouldn't be welding steering components or something, lol.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to seeing video of you driving that thing, even if it's just down the driveway. Makes me wish I had done a build thread on mine.

Thanks Tom. Hopefully it won't be too long before I can drive it. The engine and trans will be finished easily enough. I can do that stuff in my sleep. Ive lost count of how many sbc engines I've built lol. I worked in a fab shop for 6 years and now I'm the head of maintenance and fabrication where I work now. So I feel I know what I can and can't make work safely. I also built and ran demolition derby cars for 10 years so I also know how to make things work when they shouldn't lol.
