did you need to do anything besides the notch on the blazer/jimmy steering column part that comes out of the fire wall? i just bought a jeep steering shaft off ebay for 20bucks(couldnt find one from a 90-94 jeep in any of my local junkyards) and trying to figure it all out before i go and try to put this on.

The only things I had to do was to mill a small relief on the shaft coming out of the firewall to provide clearance for the pinch bolt and at the steering box I had to mill the shoulder of the pinch bolt down because as i was tightening the bolt the shoulder was rubbing against the splines and pushing the shaft off of the steering box spline as it tightened.

Not all of them have to have the top relief milled. Jeep used 2 different but almost same shafts. Just depends on which one got installed that day. Both work just one needs the tiny bit ground out.

If you can't find the correct xj look for a yj wrangler.
The wranglers have the same style but are 6 inches or so longer. All you have to do is slide it apart and cut some the shafts down.

I didn't have to mill anything on mine. Been running it for about a year or so now.

it removes the rag and tulip joint and getting rid of alot of the slop they both cause. and its cheaper to do than replacing the gm steering shaft.... at least thats what ive heard lol

Gives a better feel in the steering also

i got my shaft that i ordered of ebay but it doesnt have the bolt and nut for the ends, what size are they?

also the end that connects to the steering box moves freely while the one that goes on the steering column is kinds rusted looking, are there cheap replacement parts i can get for these? i looked on the web and it kept bringing up 80 flaming river joints. i was thinkin about just taking the shaft to the parts store and seeing what they say.

They are not made to be rebuilt.

You might be able to remove the U-Joint on the shaft the same way you would on a drive shaft. I would use a vise and a couple of sockets. One socket has to be larger than the end of the U-Joint to act as a receiver cup, and another small socket to act as a press. If you can remove the U-Joint then you can clean, grease and re-install. For the bolts I would take the whole assy. to a hardware store and find the right size bolts that fit. There are no nuts used as one end of the pinch bolt location is a threaded hole.
