Street Legal Sprint Car

:icon_hyper:

One of the guys I work with started up a machine shop. He wanted some advertising. I told him a Street Legal Sprint car would be awesome. Well, many thousands of dollars later we got started.

** Car is complete, but here are the build pics and some specs.**

!! EVERYTHING HAS IT'S PRICE. IF YOU THINK YOU CAN'T LIVE WITHOUT IT, I'LL GET YOU HIS EMAIL/PHONE !!

He's already working on a second and building a frame for a 3rd after that.

Started with a used frame.

Stretched it to accept a transmission and be a bit more comfortable.

Added an '02 LS1/4L60E Sock except a Comp Big Mutha Thumper for sound. Dynoed with ~340tq/340hp at the wheels.

More to come. We're heading to the track to get some numbers tomorrow.

that wouldn't pass in PA. Needs fenders and catalytic converters. but other than that pretty cool idea

Street legal? :icon_laugh: Where?

AJBert 09-30-2010 05:54 PM

Hate to say it but it would probably pass here in MS.

There was an article in the latest HOTROD about a guy in California that has one. They mentioned something about being under a certain weight that allowed him to run without fenders. Might have to look into that one. As far as the converters, he's running 10" race mufflers so I'm sure those can just be swapped out for high-flow converters. Might be a bit quieter, but it sort of sucks driving around with earplugs in anyway. NOT!!!

We're looking to hit somewhere around 100 in the 1/8th. I can hardly imagine what this thing would do with heads and an intake.

There are more vids I need to locate.

Best we could muster was a 6.91 at about 102mph. Unfortunately that run or a previous burnout fractured the tailshaft housing. When I ran the car I only got a 7.25 out of it and ripped the housing from the mount.

Learned a lot about the car last night and were faster than 75% of the cars at the track. We were within a half second of some drag only cars.

MTopper 10-03-2010 12:44 AM

definitely pass here in Michigan... oh wait, we don't have any tests!!!! haha

Benedict1337 10-03-2010 02:17 PM

so can you drive anything on the road in Michigan?

MTopper 10-03-2010 02:27 PM

i think as long as it has brake lights, headlights, a license plate, and some sort of bumpers it is legal
