Default tobyhd02 1980 K5 build

Figured I would start a "build" to document anything I do on this Blazer.

As it sits when I brought it home.

Very nice! Looks like a solid starting point... any big plans for the future? Or just repair and refresh?

No big plans, a repair and refresh is a perfect way to put it. I have fixed the blower motor (ground issue) changing the fluids this weekend. then drive it and have fun while fixing the little things.

Awesome! The old Square bodies have really been growing on me lately... need to find a new ride with good towing, and I think I might be looking into one of these, or the newer full size tahoe

Me too, I have wanted one for awhile. I don't think these older ones tow that much, but it sure is fun to drive around. I changed the fluids and drove it around all day today. it runs and drives well for a 42 year old rig. I purchase some new door lock cylinders since this didn't come with door keys. seems to be a straight forward swap.

changed out the door locks, I didn't have a key for the originals. pretty easy job. while in there I lubed everything up and sprayed some fluid film in the doors.

Took apart the dash last night to replace the shift indicator and trouble shoot the factory tach. the indicator is replaced, and I have narrowed the tach to a faulty factory original tach. I ordered a new one from LMC. found a HUGE wiring nightmare under the dash and have started to clean it up a little... I guess after 41 years, it gets a little messy. fairly easy process though.

I received the parts from LMC, and fixed the factory tach, it works great. along with the replaced shift indicator the dash is back together.

I also put a new rearview on, because someone thought tinting the actual mirror was a good idea....
