Updating the powertrain...

I have decided to keep my old '84 and put a new engine and transmission in in a few years. No hurry because she still runs great, gas hog that she is.

I will spend as much as I would geting a late model pickup but will retain the platform that I have now. I know out here in California I'll have to get a smog refree involved as the truck will have to be re-smogged to the year of the engine.

Will the NP transfercase match up to a modern configuration? Lots of questions...any thoughts??

Not sure about your t-case question... but have you considered going to a newer TBI 350? People have supposedly gotten BETTER mileage out of the bigger V8's since the engine doesn't work as hard to move the truck along.

Swap kits/parts are available, and forums exist specifically for V8 swaps like this. With Cataytic converters and the right exhaust parts, emissions would be a breeze IMO.

I have done a little research into this...Keeping the motor I have now would save huge dollars. And the TBI idea is sounding better and better. I could junk the R-700 and get a turbo 400 and get the NP 205 rebuilt and end up with what I'm looking for...a Blazer in top shape. I just love the things...straight axle rough riding but dependable. I'll post the progress when I get started...thanks oktain!!
