Blazer Forum - Chevy Blazer Forums - Wheel Transfer in Photoshop

This tutorial is to help you understand how to go from stock to custom on any picture you choose to Photoshop. Whether it is a Mini Cooper or a Mercedes Benz, both share something in common, they have four wheels. The view of the photo depends on the user and what you want to do. The most widely available photo is the ¾ front or ¾ rear view. I will make this as easy as possible so it is easy to follow.
You may use the following two pictures or you may use your own. The best source for vehicles to chop or to use as donors can be found at www.netcarshow.com.

I will be using the picture of a 2002 Chevy Blazer.

For the donor I will be using a 2008 Brabus SV12 S Biturbo Coupe.

Both are close to the same view (( ¾ front) this way is much easier). Remember though to try and use pictures that are close to the same size. Otherwise if the pictures of the wheels are to small that you want to use they can become pixilated (blurry), which in turn will make the vehicle appear less real. Also remember to use pictures of actual wheels on vehicles. If you use a wheel that is not on a car or shows no depth (I.e. no brakes or from a different angle) it will be shown flat. Now onto the tutorial….

First things first. Open Photoshop and choose the vehicle you want to customize, then open your donor car.

Front tire transfer

1: You will need to zoom in as close as you can so you can Polygonal Lasso around the rim as shown.

2: After the lassoing has been completed press Ctrl+C or go to Edit then Copy. Go to original car (Blazer) and paste (Ctrl+V) the rim into the picture. Don’t worry it will create a new layer ( no worries this allows us to Free Transform (or Distort Transform))the rim to fit.

3: Next go into Free Transform mode (Ctrl+T). Now transform your rim to fit onto the original rim. Don’t worry if you go pass the front bumper that will be fixed next.

4: Now we need to fix the area of the rim that has gone over the front bumper. To do this we will use the Lasso tool we used in 1A and go around the part that needs to be erased or deleted. It is easier if you click the eye next to the wheel layer and make the layer disappear for a moment. Follow the bumper starting from the top working your way down and go to the left far enough so you know you get the whole rim from the donor car. As shown below.

5: This is the final step. Leaving the Lassoed part still like a black/white line, click the little eye next to the rim layer. The rim will reappear. Now you can press delete. The are in the lassoed part will disappear. After that right click the mouse anywhere with the lasso and select deselect. The lassoed area will go away. Now go to the layer options shown in the picture and select Flatten Image.

The front wheel is now complete. Doing the rear wheel the same exact way will complete the wheel transfer tutorial. It will also make your vehicle stand out to the rest once this has been completed. Take care to what vehicles you use and how big you want your donor rim to be on the original tire. Think of how it would look in real life and that too will add realism.
