ICE Liquid Clay Bar

Turtle Wax has added another cleaning solution to their line of ICE products:

Turtle Wax® ICE™ Liquid Clay Bar

It is supposed to take a fraction of the time as traditional clay bar sytems. It boasts atriple layer formula which consists of a remover for scratches and swirls, a cleaner, and an exfoliant (sounds like something for skin to me), as they put it, that works with the cleaner to provide the ultimate in paint care.

I pulled this from a product description on my local auto parts store's site:

Product Benefits
[ul][*]Easily removes minor scratches, swirls marks, tree sap, paint overspray and embedded dirt and stains that ordinary detailing clays leave behind.[*]Creates smooth as glass finish on all paintwork, fiberglass and metal surfaces.[*]Does not contain harsh abrasives that can scratch or scuff your finish. [/ul]

I will pick it up this weekend, weather permitting, I will give it a shot with some before and after pics, and my opinion on the final result.

This does sound like a good product. I always used the Meguiars Clay and it has worked amazing. Definitely post up how this is applied.

Will do! This will be my pleasure! Love washing and waxing my truck, so I'll be doing alot of reviews for different detailing products for you guys.

I can't wait, just got a new one today and went ballistic. Hate getting scratches. The dude even saw me unlock it as I walked up to it and he just walked off.

I love detailing my truck also. But I'm going to hold off from using the clay bar and wax until pollen season is over. I have alot of trees on my black and every spring my truck turns grean and gets covered in tree sap.

Not as of yet. We have had terrible weather here for the last month, and this weekend is not looking any better so far, but as soon as the weather is good you can bet on hearing something.

I used it today, along with Turtle Wax Ice, and boy does it shine. Course it only took a few minutes for a think layer of pollen to form =(. Anywho, here is a pic.

I like the fact that you have the bottles sitting on the windsheild. Almost like you're adverting!!LOL. I like the liquid clay bar, but I like to use my regular clay kit most of the time. The liquid clay bar couldn't cut through the thick layer of sap residue I had on the top, but the regular clay bar got it out after about three applications.

RE: ICE Liquid Clay Bar

I have a huge tree that hangs over my driveway from my neighbors yard and I get all that [sm=smiley35.gif] on my truck too. I usually run it through the car wash first and then wax it. I recently got a tip from a good freind of mine (not here) to wash with dawn dish soap first, that will remove the old layer of wax and whatever else is on the finish. Then you use one of those Mr. Clean auto car wash things to rinse spot free, and then you clay bar, polish, and wax. It will shine more cause you actually clay barred the finish and not the old wax on your car or truck. The good thing about the turtle wax stuff is that it is oil free so you can apply it in sunlight and it will have the same effect as if you applied it in the shade. And yes, I am showing off by putting the bottles on the windshield.

Finally we are supposed to have a clear weekend. So, my homie is gonna bring his S-10 over and we are gonna do both my truck and his with the clay bar. His is a mess, so it will be the real test!

RE: ICE Liquid Clay Bar

Used it on mycousin's Suburban, its like brand new now. I run a little detailing buisiness on the side and i make cash, I have only done about 6 vehicles so far but the Suburban was the first I used it on... I did't really like the application directions. Instead of just rinsing the vehicle and applying it, I completely washed it first. It worked very well though.

tyhackman15 05-30-2007 01:38 PM

RE: ICE Liquid Clay Bar

When you guys use this, do you apply it to a wet car after you washed it, or after you dried it? I wasn't sure on the directions, so i'm holding off on using it.

rabbit0102030 05-30-2007 01:51 PM

RE: ICE Liquid Clay Bar

It comes with a lube. Clay barring isn't for everyone, you can seriously damage your paint if done improperly. Read the directions and do exactly as they reccomend.

EuroGoldLS 05-31-2007 09:26 PM

RE: ICE Liquid Clay Bar

There is a wash polymerin the chemical, so yes on a wet car...

I recommend washing the car thoroughly instead of doing as the directions say and rinsing. When I use my liquid clay bar, I don't want to be rubbing dirt around on my paint. Just a suggestion!!

RE: ICE Liquid Clay Bar

Every auto clay bar is the same. It don't matter which one you use, you can use it wet or dry, don't matter. I have used most, and the cheaper ones work the same as the expensive ones. I paint cars for a living and use them to get clear overspray off the other panels when yours just painting a certain part. It don't matter HOW much you mask the parts up, they STILL get oversprayed!!

rabbit0102030 06-03-2007 11:05 PM

RE: ICE Liquid Clay Bar

Ummm....I painted my truck myself and there is absolutely no overspray.

igot10pinitis 06-04-2007 06:06 AM

RE: ICE Liquid Clay Bar

like i said when you paint the whole thing you will not get overspray. But when you paint half a car and mask up the other half with the clear 3m plastic, there is always overspray.

I haven't had a chance to try it yet, but I still am working off my Mother's Clay bar kit and have another Meguiar's Clay Bar kit on the shelf. Never know when you slip and drop the clay. I always toss it out and get a new one.

I should be doing the clay treatment to my Rainier sometime in the next month or so. The paint isnt too aweful bad right now.

Cool, I picked up the product this weekend, and then my fiance's car got crushed by a sign that fell down on top of it! [:'(]So, it seems I have to wait once again before I get a shot at using it. [:@]

my dad is a big fan of the mother's clay bar and u guys have been saying good things about the turtle one so i got confused when i was buying one, because i have no experience with any haha; i was at the store yesterday lookin at the ice and mothers and i didnt decide on one, who has used both? which one gave u the better results?

EuroGoldLS 06-07-2007 08:01 AM

RE: ICE Liquid Clay Bar

Depends on what you want it to do. If you have overspray on you paint, I reccomend a mothers clay bar or a Meguiars clay bar. The liquid clay bar is different, it will not take out very heavy deposits in the paint, but produced shiny results. Try a conventional clay bar and then try the liquid clay bar and see which you like best.

The mothers product and the Turtle wax productis completely different.

RE: ICE Liquid Clay Bar

alright so the mothers is more for heavy deposits. i think my car has salt in the paint (have no idea thats everyones best guest right now, but we arent very experienced since where im from theres no need to salt the roads when it snows an inch at most haha), so would it be better for that?

EuroGoldLS 06-08-2007 10:49 AM

RE: ICE Liquid Clay Bar

It depends, I'd use a normal clay bar on it, Mothers or Meguiars. The conventional clay bar will take most residual salt, dirt, tree sap and bugs out of the paint.
All you do is spray on the deatiler (acts as a lubricant) and then rub the clay across the wet surface until you can't hear it picking up anything, wipe off the detailer and then wax it.

I use ICE Liquid Clay Bar, Meguiars NXT Gen Wax, and ICE Liquid Polish, and let me tell you what I love the shine that I get! Sooo purddy

RE: ICE Liquid Clay Bar

I gotta get a clay system. Which would you suggest, the bar or the spray? its for the 2001 honda, paint is lookin rough.

EuroGoldLS 06-08-2007 04:07 PM

RE: ICE Liquid Clay Bar

Go with Megiuars Smooth Finish Clay Kit, unlike the Mothers, it come with two clay bars and has a bigger bottle of spray and is around the same price.
Keep in mind that if the clearcoat has faded, a clay bar will not help you.

hillbillyinOhio 06-08-2007 04:39 PM

RE: ICE Liquid Clay Bar

i dont think the clear coat is faded, just its really dirty. I did a very thorough wash and wax, and wasnt smooth at all.

EuroGoldLS 06-08-2007 08:05 PM

RE: ICE Liquid Clay Bar

Yeah, clay bar should get it. Our Envoy had some pretty major deposits of sap and grit in the paint from the day we got it and we originally thought it was just the metallic flake in the paint, but it was overspray from the factory...I triedseveral different things and I waxed the living hell out of it and couldn't get it out, but the clay bar sheared the deposits right off.
