Plastic Repair
I'm wondering if anyone knows exactly what kind of plastic that the bumper cover and interior door panels are made of on a 2000 Blazer LS? Those items have cracks that I want to repair, if possible.

There are filler products and adhesives made specifically for bumper cover urethanes and you repair them just as folks used to bondo car metal. stabilize damaged area, fill, sand, fill, sand finish.
do a search repair torn bumper cover - Google Search read this, very good info: How to repair plastic bumper covers. Note you dont just put a backer on and fill the crack. It will just crack again |
Thanks a lot. I haven't finished studying the links that you gave, but I did read through the article in the second link, and checked out the product links at the bottom of it, and found that the repair will be more complicated and expensive than I imagined. However, with the cost of new replacement parts, I probably will give it a try, unless I can find good replacement parts in the salvage.

Dont forget craigslist... I got a good servicable cover for a Lumina from there... 65 bucks plus shipping {actually $30 in gas} Not only that.. it was the exact color. opposed to about 150-200 bucks in online salvage yards.

That's a worthwhile thought. I just checked and found nothing for my vehicle, but there were enough other types available, that it is worth checking again.
Being somewhat tight, I have been wondering what it would look like if I just removed the cover entirely, because the bumper itself is chrome, and wouldn't look bad if the impact molding was replaced to fill the holes. However I'm not sure what the exposed area below the bumper would look like. |
