83 K5 6.2 diesel

Hey y'all, I am new here and I recently posted in the new member area about my truck. I have a 1983 K5 Blazer silverado with the 6.2L diesel in it. The truck had been sitting for 7 years and I am going to try starting it soon. I have no idea if it will even come close to running or if it is even still operational. I have built and worked on lots of gas engines but never a diesel. What do I need to know before I try to start this thing? any special precautions I need to take or tricks to getting it started? Also, I was told 6.2s go through injector pumps pretty often. If the injector pump is shot, which might be why it was parked, I really don't know, how expensive and how hard is it to rebuild the surrent pump or to just replace it. any advice anyone can give me would be much appreciated. Thanks y'all

First thing you want to do is drain the fuel out and change the fuel filter and water separator filter if it has one.

ok, I'll try that and let you know what happens. thanks

if it turns out the injector pump is shot, I know it will be a pain to fix because it is gear driven and the engine will have to be retimed and I don't know if timing a diesel is different than a gas engine. How hard would it be to pull the diesel and drop in a 350? obviously everything fuel and ignition related would be different, but is it even worth looking into?
