Assembly Lube Purpose
 

What is the purpose of Assembly Lube ?
What is the duration that Assembly Lube actually performs its function ?


May seem like a simple question.
I have a reason for posting - pertaining to my personal Long Block Install.

It "seats" the metal parts and also makes sure the metal doesn't gall from being dry. On the camshaft and lifters for instance, the lifter has to "seat" into the camshaft. It will then last for a long time. That's why you run the engine up to around 2000 rpm for 15 minutes. If you don't, the life of the camshaft is shortened, especially under heavy use.

It's the same way with the rings. If you don't let them seat in, you'll be spraying for mosquitos going down the road. The last engine I rebuilt used a quart of oil in the first 50 miles and not a drop for the 30,000 miles after that until I sold the car.

Long Block ( fully assembled ) has never been started and has
been in Storage for near two years.
Install to be happening soon.
I am still believing that Assembly Lube has a purpose upon and after Engine Start Up.
Please advise.
With this storage time, would re-adding Assembly Lube around and to the original Assembly
Lubed parts ( without dis-assembly / re-assembly ) be suggested / beneficial ?

if you want,pull the manifold and dump some oil over the cam. but other then that i wouldnt worry about it.
