Cat
Hi all I have a 2005 jimmy. the cat went bad and started rattling its guts out. thats about done with now but i'm getting an extreme lack power and acceleration and such. ive tried a mini cat adapter on my downstream o2 sensor but this hasn't helped at all. I really don't want to put in a new set of cats and pipes but i will as a last resort. does anyone know of a way to convince the ECU that it doesn't need that downstream sensor and let my engine run in unrestricted mode?

Go with the new cats. Trust me you'll be glad you did.

Don't use Ultra Exhaust (www.ultraexhaust.ca or www.ultraexhaust.com). They mounted the O2 sensor nut in the wrong place which prevented me from properly installing the catalytic converter and would not pay for return shipping for the return.
Once your cat starts rattling I would think that you can end up with a blockage that is responsible for your lack of power. If you are doing a stock replacement, it is not too bad to do yourself if you get one with the pipes already on the cat and you don't have lots of rust underneath. |
i was looking at ones on rock auto that are basically the stock cat tree setup of cats pipes and o2 sensor nuts all assembled. one is walker and one is easten catalytic. ill need a new muffler and tail pipe too because someone snot welded it together

On my 1999, the y-pipe is not welded to the cat so I was able to get a cat that had only short sections of pipe to connect at the outlet of the y-pipe and entrance to the muffler.
Not being a welder, I went with the bolt-in replacement for both the cat and the muffler and tailpipe. I got the later from Walker with the larger pipe diameter. It was pretty easy to install. I did it in my driveway. Note: I live outside of where they use lots of road-salt so a little Liquid Wrench is typically all I need to get my bolts out. |
Replace the cat and your engine power will be restored. It can't breath with a plugged converter. A muffler shop can weld in the assembly for very little money.

I bought a cat off eBay for 50 bucks for my 97. Bolted right up |
