engine overhul
hi i plan on doing a serious over haul on my engine to get about 300-350hp out of it and i was wondering if anyone has done any upgrades to the transmission and transfercase to handle the extra power? if so whats was done and how much did it cost? any help would be greatly appreciated.

Well,if its a 4l60,im not sure if it would like handling 350 hp. Id have it rebuild with performance parts, shift kit, that new corvette servo, sunshell etc. Im not a transmission guy but its what ive read.

The '97 to '04 Corvette, the '98 to '03 Camaro (both with the 350 hp LS1), and every half ton truck and SUV from '99 on from GM came with the 4L60E.
I'm fairly certain our Blazers/Jimmy's with the 4L60E can handle it no problem...if in brand new condition. As in a quality rebuild. |
so with the trans rebuilt then is this something i can do in my garage? has anyone rebuilt a transmission who could give me some pointers? and does anyone kno what kind of transfercase we have so i can rebuild that as well? thanx for the help guys, love the feed back.

If you have never rebuild a 4L60E or a modern automatic transmission, I would not recommend trying it yourself.
A 1999 Trailblazer trimmed Blazer should have the NV236 transfer case. |
torque and heat will kill the trans not horsepower. do and external trans cooler, do frequent transmission oil drain/fills, and go with a torque convertor to match your cam when your doing your engine build.

As kyle said if u dont know what you are doing dont try to learn on your trans. If you really want to learn how to rebuild a trans get a donor trans first. Then when you destroy it by accident you wont be screwed for a trans. Good Luck on whatever road you take
