Synthetic VS Plain Jane
 

Noticed a post aboot a complaint regarding synthetic. That should be a discussion unto itself. Any opinions as to whether or not the synthetic is worth the extra cost? I just purchased a new Blazer and I've debated whether or not my first oil change should be to synthetic or stay with plain jane lube.

What u cats suggest?

i use synthetic because it gives me an 8000 mile change interval instead of the 3000 to 3500 I used to use. Good reguler oil will protect an engine just as well as full synthetic except it wont last as long or resist thermal breakdown as long so after 3500 its already loosing its propertys. Figure out the cost. Its about the same if you multiply the reguler change price times two. Plus then you dont have to worry about changing as long. In the middle there are the synthetic blends which are not as good as full synthetic but better/ longer lasteng then reguler. The other thing is they may put more specilty compounds in full synthetic (detergents and cleaners).

I'm running Royal Purple oil in mine. It's a synthetic oil and it's even helps add horsepower. No problems what so ever with it. It's about $5 a quart but I think that it's worth it. I used it on my first oil change.

8000 miles? damn thats a long time. i liike to stick with the old 3000 mile interval. that way ill remember to check all te other stuff more often when im under there. ball joints, tie rods, brakes, belts hoses, fluids...[sm=icon_blah.gif][sm=icon_blah.gif]. id rather keep an eye on those every 3000 mi/3 months.

Speaking of ball joints...I have heard that Blazers are notorious for having to replace them often...is that true? Mine is getting them done now for it's safety and they were all I had to do, as well as the control arm bushings.

yeah, they chew up ball joints pretty quick.

Oh well...I get NAPA parts at cost, so I guess I can deal with that.
