v8 swap thread.
i have a 91 4 door 4wd s10 blazer im looking into putting a v8 into. Im just not sure as to what i need to go about doing. ive found the engine i want, found the kit id use and have the steps all planned out. the blazer has 120k miles on it and wasnt sure if the transmission would hold to the added power and torque. if needed, what should i do to the transmission? another question is, if i stick with a carb then what would i need to do to the computer to get the gauges and tranny to work properly?
here is the link to the engine. 350 Crate Engine 290 HP Deluxe 19244450 - Crate Engine Depot |
make sure its a 1pc rear seal. you need
s10 4wd engine mounts s10 4wd oil pan efans (for cheap mod google taurus fan mod s10) If you are going carb'd you need a pressure regulator as the tbi pump puts out around 13 and you need only about 6 on a carb. id personally keep the tbi and run v8 tbi injectors,v8 prom chip from a v8 gm donor truck computer around the same year, and get it tuned. Best bet is find a good running tbi motor, and swap the heads for some vortecs, and get a manifold, headers, cam and carb and a good tune. Easy 300 hp right there. for less then 1200.00 |
running a tbi defeats the purpose of why i wanted carbed. i dont want to deal with the electronics and such from the tbi. im familiar with them, i just dont want to deal with them. if i kept an efi engine id just go with the lt1. the kit that im looking at comes with headers, mounts, and oil pan. I have everything planned out. i just didnt know what the tranny could handle, and if gauges would work. since i have the 4l60 its not controlled by the ecm right? its a 91 s10 blazer.

if you are set on going carb'd then cool. The stock 700r4 may blow with that amount of torque unless you baby it(whats the fun in that?). You need to either beef it up or buy a 700r4 out of a truck. as they have more clutch packs.
You also need to worry about the tv cable brackets etc on the carb for that trans. the adjustment has to be perfect or transmission will starve for transmission fluid and burn up. |
