VIN "X" Cylinder Heads

I am looking to upgrade my 95 4.3L with the 96+ heads.
I know there are several different casting numbers and I want to make sure I get the best head from the factory to work over real well.
If anyone knows of a resource to the casting numbers it would be much appreciated.

Planning on re-machining them for the perpendicular intake manifold bolt pattern?

If you mean tapping the heads to accept my CPI intake then yes.
I also wonder if there is a plane angle difference where the manifold bolts to.
Kinda like the difference in LT1 and old school SBC.

My apologies for the double post.

I did a quick search for the differences between the v8 vortec heads and non-vortec heads. Many people just re-drill them for the perpendicular bolt pattern and that's it. Since these heads are just shorter versions of the v8 heads, I would think that would hold true for them as well. I plan on putting the vortec heads on my L05 that I'm putting into my '74.

Here's a quote for you:

Original - HotRod.com

According to the Cylinder Head Exchange, look for casting Nos. 772, 140, or 113. There's about a 50/50 chance the 113 heads will be machined for fully adjustable rocker arms; the other casting numbers as well as the remaining 113s come with nonadjustable positive-stop rocker-arm studs. Crane Cams offers an adjustable conversion stud (PN 99148-2, six required), but for serious work, all these should be drilled and tapped for V-8-type screw-in rocker studs and roller rockers.
