00' tahoe engine in 00' jimmy

Hello all new member here,

i was thinking, would it be possible to put a 5.3 V8 engine from from a 2000 tahoe into my 2000 GMC jimmy SLE? A new engine is going in the tahoe and i wouldnt want the old engine to sit around, plus an extra 100 HP would be nice.

biggest questions are: can it be done?has it been done?will it fit in the engine bay as is?
i hope this isnt stupid question.

Yes it is possible. I think you might even be able to get kits that include wiring, headers, engine mounts, etc. to make the swap easier. Personally I have no experience with it but if you do go through with the swap I hope you document your process here. I'd love to see it, as would many others I'm sure.

You can keep your transmission

I think you should take the next 6 months and google it everyday and read something new about it everyday for the next 6 months and then start the swap. This has been covered countless times on the web with every detail you would ever need to know about making it happen! Just take some time and put in the research hours and you will come out way ahead rather than blindly asking how, if, what type questions before any reading has been done:)

+1 to Rex.
i have bought an axle to swap in my truck and its been sitting in my back yard for coming up on 6 months now. i have finally done enough research and parts gathering to get it under way. i wouldnt rush into anything with such a project. you dont want to have your truck torn apart for 2 or 3 months because you have find a part or something ridiculous. research and google will be your best friends for the next few months i would say. best of luck and i hope you take lots of pictures.
but you should be able to keep your transmission as long as its up to fighting shape so to speak.

I agree with the guys above. Read over it thoroughly before ever starting and if serious start gathering the parts needed to do it. Some parts like the electric fans and radiator stuff you can find in the junk yard. My biggest thing would be getting the electronics sorted out so that the dash would not light up like a Christmas tree. My 99 ZR2 has 200K on it but still runs strong and I was thinking about maybe doing it one day also.
