'00 ZR2 1st Gear Issues

This problem has been occurring intermittently for the past two years, never consistently enough for a shop to successfully diagnose it.

Randomly the truck will start out in 2nd gear with the gear selector in D. Manually shifting to '1' does not shift it into 1st. When it starts in second if I stay heavy on the gas I feel something akin to a misfire and the engine bogs (which I am assuming is torque management kicking in) about a solid second before it shifts 2-3. 3-4 shift is normal and the TCC locks up in 4th.

Just as randomly it will find 1st again and operate normally. This hasn't happened in the past two or three months but occurred at least a dozen times this morning and afternoon. During the last 30 minutes of my evening commute the issue had disappeared.

The trans fluid is red and smells normal. I last had the fluid and filter changed last spring at which time both shift solenoids were changed in an attempt to address this issue.

Is this a PCM issue?

hmm tough one, I have the same truck with no issues. could be something as simple as a dirty electrical connection on the tranny itself. Start simple, search the net

I changed the ignition switch about a week ago, thus far I haven't experienced this problem. It's always hard to tell when an intermittent problem is fixed so I'm keeping my fingers crossed!
