04 Blazer cutting out

I have a 04 Blazer 4.3 Vortec
The other day i was driving and it felt like the trans was skipping so I made it to a parking lot and put in park. I then reved the engine and at about 2500 rpm the engine would skip like it just lost fuel or something.
Well in the process of doing that I noticed the temp gauge going from 210 to 100 (the lowest reading) at the same time the the engine is skipping.
Also the check engine light came on when it started skipping.
I got a P0102 code (MAF curcit) So i replaced the MAF sensor.
Still showing the same code but as pending.
I took it to a shop and they said the temp gauge is reading -65 degrees and the computer is cutting the fuel off. They want to replace the computer but I dont want to spend that kind of money if they are wrong.
I need a second person to tell me thats what they think too.
Does anyone have any advice or can give me any help with this problem.

Did they test the sensor itself to make sure that it was reading incorrectly or were they just plugging in a scan tool and looking at the readings?

How about trace any wiring or other diagnostic steps other than just replacement of parts?

What was the specific code? for the MAF sensor? Is it listing any codes for the ETC sensor?

They said they checked the temp sensor and checked the wiring and they also said they thought it could be the dash cluster but changed there minds about that.
The code was P0102 (Mass or Volume Air Circuit Low Input) Thats the only code that came up.

swartlkk 11-18-2010 07:52 PM

P0102 - Mass Air Flow Sensor Circuit Low Frequency

And the PCM should have kicked out P0117 if it was reading really that low which is the opposite of this code:
P0118 - Engine Coolant Temperature [ECT] Sensor Circuit High Voltage

Do you have the means to check things yourself?

No I dont have the means to check that I just have basic know how and a cheap code reader

Well problem solve the shop I WAS using (no longer using) replaced the computer and charged me around $500 and didnt fix the problem so I sent it to the dealership and they fixed it.
It was the temp sensor $38 and $50 labor so $85 total.
I could have saved $415 by just taking it to a dealership in the first place.
But I guess everyone gets bent over every once and awile.

Well I thought it was fixed. Started having problems with lack of power and the MAF sensor code and two o2 sensor codes. Took it back to the dealer and they said I needed to replace the catalitic converters so I did. That fixed the lack of power issue but I still have the MAF sensor code and the two o2 sensor codes and it started hesatating. Any thoughts would be helpful because Im running out of options and money.

Oh the codes are P0101, P0131, and P0151 the o2 sensor codes say pending
