1995 Jimmy 4X4 Automatic Tranny Oil Change

I changed my 1994 Jimmy 4X4's automatic transmission oil and filter. On the back side of the transfercase there is a drain plug and I removed that and automatic tranny fluid drained out.

My question is when I refill the automatic tranny via the dipstick/tube will that fill the transfercase too?

It only took about 5 quarts of oil to bring the dipstick to the full mark.

Thanks for your reply.

Most likely the transfer cas was filled with trans fluid. That is pretty standard on the older ones. Like mine. I suspect you will need to fill the transfer case separately. The two systems are not connected, I don't believe.

How much fluid came out of the tranny? How much from the transfer case? 5 quarts seems short to fill both.

What I could find:
Tansmission on fluid change takes 5 quarts.

Transer case=Should be a tag on the back.
Np231 and 233=1 quart
Nv136 and 236= 2 quarts

oisinirish,

Thanks. I checked my owners manual this morning and yes it does fill separately and uses ATF.
