1997 4x4 Blazer LT VIN "W" 4.3 Vortec Engine Removal/Installation
I don't think I can solve my engine problem (Thread-97 Blazer valve adjustment). I have a pretty good deal on a replacement engine and I don't want to miss out. I have from July 1st to the 4th to pull a 4.3 Vortec from a 1997 Bravada. Anybody want to help guide me through the engine removal process ?

Basically you have the 2 fuel lines and 1 evap line to disconnect or cut, 2 radiator hoses, 2 heater core hoses to remove or cut, wiring harness to remove or just unplug from the engine, Starter and wiring, 3 torque converter bolts and i believe 8 bell housing bolts, 6 motor mount bolts.
I would remove the hood and radiator to make it easier. If you want alot more room just remove everything from the front of the engine like the alternator bracket a/c compressor/power steering bracket (you might need a special puller to get the power steering pulley off) and the water pump. |

Ok I need to hot wire this Bravada at the salvage yard. But this guy said "To hard to explain but you can put a flat head screwdriver and touch the two bolts on the starter soleonoid and it will turn over" ...is that true ? If not, how can I start it without the key ? Or how can I hot wire it ?

You can't hotwire it to start and run. Security system is pretty good. Need the key.
The oil is good, from the dipstick, going to drain it tomorrow. The mileage is 96k. The engine turns over by hand. So far so good ? |
