1998 4x4 jimmy no crank no start
 

I have a 1998 jimmy. The other morning it was very cold the jimmy cranked but did not start. I have had this issue before and was able to get it started with the help of starter fluid. this time i killed the battery trying to start it. So I pushed it into the street and went to work. after work I charged the battery now no crank and I cannot shift out of park. I also cannot turn the ignition back to remove the key. My battery is only 6 months old. Any thoughts of what might be wrong. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

are there any engine codes? if so what are they.. could be the ignition switch, if you
have a rubber mallet gently tap the key if it starts then i would say ignition switch ,if it frees up the key same thing

I have since changed the ignition switch still no crank. key still will not come out unless I press the release. Anyone?
