1998 transmission compatibility

First time posting as I just joined so sorry if this has been posted a million times. I have a 1998 blazer 4x4 that I use as my plow truck for my property. It has been a good truck the last 2 years but today I went to plow out a buddy and half way through the job it started slipping in reverse. By the time I was done she was slipping in every gear. I checked fluid and it looked in good condition and full. So it seems it’s time for a replacement.
It seems the 4l60e is a very common trans but there are a lot of iteration of it. So the question is what years and make and models will fit my 1998 4x4? Once again sorry if I am beating a dead horse here.

98-02 Blazer, s10, Astro with 4x4. Broadcast code tag should read 8TAD, 9TAD, 0TAD, 1TAD or 2TAD. If the tag is missing the code is also on the passenger side of the case toward the rear of the pan rail. It's small.
98 only 1/2 ton full size will also work. 99 up NOT.

Thanks a lot for the reply. I found a guy on eBay that sells rebuilt 4l60e and said he will make me one with a beast shell upgrade for $800 with a warranty. Does that sound to good to be true?

You'll also need a new torque converter since your old one is likely full of debris. Also need to thoroughly flush cooler and lines with the proper flushing fluid and air for the same reason.
Can you post a link to this trans?

So I checked it just now for the first time since the incident last night. Started it up let it run for a few minutes and drove it gently around the property. Did not slip so it only seems to happen when it gets to operating temps I’m assuming. Parked it and checked the fluid level which was a tad high and blackish in color. So the chance of it being really low is out the window.

Yup, it's toast. Ain't supposed to be black. Pinkish red is good stuff. Black is burned

Ad seems as good as they get. By the time you add core and residential delivery it's getting up around a grand. plus converter.
No good shops in upstate NY?

I like these local ads:

Yeah my local shop that’s going to swap it said they can find one a lot cheaper as well. Thanks for the adds they are quite tempting and I will keep them on the back burner. It’s nice to find a good forum these days since there a lot of crap ones out there. I told myself if the blazer broke it would go to scrap since I only paid $1500 with the snoway plow on it but I have grown to like it. It’s easy to maneuver being so short and once I put sand bags in the back she goes through pretty much anything.
