Default 2000 Blazer Overheated

Hi all. I have the chance to buy a UK spec 2000 Blazer with the 4.3 V6 petrol engine, it’s cheap but the issue is that the seller says the radiator leaked and engine overheated briefly, he said he’d switched it off as soon as he noticed, still starts and no steam coming out of exhaust, my question though is are these engines robust enough to survive this? Don’t want to buy it then have to sort a damaged engine. Thanks

Yes they can survive a certain level of overheating but the exact level where damage occurs is variable. Your best bet is to listen to the engine and then do a compression test if you are concerned.

thanks George, I’m waiting for the seller to put a new radiator in the car then I’ll go and view it be able to take it for a long drive as well.

If you don’t hear any knocking or whining and the truck idles smooth, temps are normal and there is good power then there is likely no issue. Look at the oil and make sure that it has no water in it which would look like a milkshake.
