Question Transmission whine?

I have a 1994 s10 blazer with the vortec engine. It's an automatic, and currently at 145k. For a couple of months now, the transmission has been whining while accelerating. It will do it in any gear when I step on the gas. It whines higher until it shifts and then starts again. It's harder to hear in 3rd and 4th gear because the exhaust drowns it out. It doesn't shift as smoothly as it used to, and most of the time I have to feather the pedal slightly to help it along. Also, when I drive on the highway if I give it more gas to pass another car it will accelerate for a few seconds and then downshift when I don't want it to and it's pretty annoying. I looked at other threads related to this but need some help in deciding what is wrong here. The fluid is at a normal level, and as far as I can tell doesn't smell burnt. It was a reddish color but when I wiped the stick off on a rag it made some dirty gray streaks along with the red fluid. Underneath the car there are a few spots around the pan that are wet with fluid, but they are so small that there aren't even any drops on the ground where I park it. Any help would be really appreciated. Thanks.

No one? I really need some help please. I did look at the other threads like I said but I didn't see anything that quite matched what I'm experiencing. Anything you could help with would be really great.

Sounds like my problem. I started to, it is next to yours "transmission or....." no responce yet either. I don't have to much of a whine but your frwy description def match's mine thru 3-4. However I do believe your transmission is non electronic.... but hopefully we can find the same working answer.

I wonder how long I have until it gives up. Would I be able to replace the part or would I need to get another transmission?

My Blazer had a similar problem, but I went 16k thousand miles on it like that, and it still was running and shifting fine when I sold it.

Good to know. That makes me feel slightly more hopeful. Hope I get as much luck as you did. I'll still probably look into replacing the part down the road if it's not a ridiculous job.

The tranny has to come out to replace the front pump...its behind the torque converter
