Hello everyone,

I have a 2001 jimmy that will every now and then will start in 3rd gear after drives that are around an hour long or even sooner if the ac is running. After the car is off for a whike it is back to normal. I have read it could be the speed sensor, but mechanic said it wasn't it. Not sure what could be causing it.....any ideas?

 

If it's an automatic transmission:
Driver side of the transmission, where the shift linkage attaches to the trans, there is a Park/Neutral switch. It is designed to disable the starter unless the trans is in park or neutral. The switch could be out of adjustment or faulty. How a Car Neutral Safety Switch Works - 2CarPros

 

It is an automatic. I will come to a stop light and when I accelerate there is no power.

 

Might be best to start another thread for the "no power" issue. Most likely not related to the switch adjustment.

 

Thanks! I was told it was called limp mode. If I shift down to 3 it works fine, but if I start off in drive, it is very sluggish till it gets past 3rd
