Default 2004 Engine Coolant Temp Sensor

I need to replace the Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor. I think I found where it's located but having a hell of a time getting to it. Is it just under the head on the drivers side? Any recommendations on how to remove it? I did replace the Thermostat but I'm hoping this ECTS will correct part of the issue with the check engine light

I did mine from the top with a deep socket and 3" extension (I think) on a ratchet.
