Default 305 Distributor removal

We just found out that the set screw for the distributor on my 305 is completely stripped out and won't tighten down at all. We are going to have to retap the hole and use a slightly bigger bolt but what I need to know is if we can get the distributor out of the engine with it still being in the truck. To me it looks like the distributor is to close to the firewall to allow adequate clearance to pull straight out but any help or info would be greatly appreciated.

you might have to pull the cap off but it will come out.
