350 starting
I just recently rebuilt my 350 for my 79 K5. Cannot get the truck started. Backfires thru carb/intake. Have adjusted the dist many times to try and resolve issue, but cannot get it started. Heads/valves are adjust correctly.
Any ideas?? |
RE: 350 starting
Your positive you have the distriburator timed to the compression stroke and not the exhaust stroke?
That would be the first thing I would check. Pull the distriburator out, crank the engine over to TDC and try it again. If you pulled your timing cover you could verify TDC, but that is some extra work. |
RE: 350 starting
Did you remeber to turn the key? that helps me out when I want to get it to get up and go

ORIGINAL: 1badblazer Did you remeber to turn the key? that helps me out when I want to get it to get up and go 74green, have you tried to static time the distributor? It sounds like either the timing is out or the firing order is incorrect. |
RE: 350 starting
Ok first pull the dist. then pull the number one plug(first plug on drivers side) have a friend bump the motor over while you hold your finger over spark plug hole, when it blows your finger off stop. nowlook at your timing mark on the balancer bump it around till you hit the 8 deg. mark on the timing tab (if you go past just turn it back by hand)then redrop dist.when the dist. is all the way down the rotor should be pointing towards the number one plug hole (in that general direction). just fired mine for the first time and thats how i do it on every motor
