4th gear help. Not going past 3rd.
I知 almost ready to give up on the blazer. I got a blazer from a coworker and the blazer has been sitting for a while. I finally get her to run and go out to test drive it. Everything is good except that it can稚 go past 3rd gear! No check engine light. Only my service 4x4 light which has been on for a while. The owner did remove the old security system on the car but I bypassed it with a newrockies. I知 open for any help please! Thanks |

Also, you said it had been sitting "a while". How long exactly? Long enough that you had to jumpstart it? If so then you haven't driven it through enough cycles to set codes yet. Do you own a scanner of some sort? There could be pending codes. |
No codes. No check engine. Fluid smells a little burnt but level okay. Previous owner says the security system/ immobilizer is preventing it from shifting. I知 having doubts about that tho. (I bypassed the old security system.) |
If the ignition switch was tampered with as part of that security system then its possible. Faulty ignition switches have been known to cause all sorts of electrical problems, including shifting issues.

Sounds more of a mechanical fault than electrical. the transmission uses two shift solenoids for all gears. Shift solenoid "A" or "1-2"and "B" or "2-3" are identical. The ignition switch supplies power to the trans fuse, which supplies power to pin "E" at the 13 pin electrical connector at the transmission. the computer supplies the ground path for the shift solenoids. the solenoid pattern is:
sorry man but it sounds to me to be an internal transmission problem. I just fixed a 2000 S-10 for a similar issue 2-4 band was smoked... |
Just went through this same thing a month ago. I'm praying for you brother but it cost me 3000 bucks for a new trans. Rebuild was cheaper but the ol lady likes warrantys lol |
