Agreed above....what the mechanic may not know is there is a diagnostic procedure where the TCCM will tell you a few things about what's going on with the 4x4 electronics. This may prevent throwing money at the problem, which is sounds like what he is suggesting. See the DIY section, "4x4 no worky" thread.

Ya, dont think its the switch. Im thinking encoder motor or possible TCCM. It all depends on the test i described.

i had a simialar issue, where I new the front was engaged but no lights or the lights would go off every now and then. Just replaced the switch and all was well.

What about a tccm relearn, I know I say that a lot, but the tccm could still be thinking there is a problem with it engaging, even though it is working, so a relearn could correct the problem.

Sounds like a bad connection somewhere

check the Pins on the encoder motor plug.

Try a TCCM relearn, pull fuse, wait 10 min to make sure it's gonna work, plug it in. see if that works. If not checking wires may be a good idea and could be your problem. Sounds like something isnt telling it to stop shifting. Encoder motor could be bad, wiring could be faulty, or TCCM could be at fault. This system has similar symptoms for multiple problems.
