4x4 issue

Was out hunting a few days back and had to put my 98 blazer into four wheel drive. it went into four wheel drive just fine heard it and everything. problem i ran into was that when i started to move my truck in four wheel drive it started making a loud clicking sound. when four wheel drive is not on there is no clicking and no issues. any ideas only thing i have found so far is to see what the fluid level is.

thanks

The front axle likely isn't fully engaging. That's where I would start. You may have a torn diaphragm under the battery or possibly a partially froze up cable.

o joy this sounds pricey. how do i go about finding the diaphragm?? this is also the push button style. if that helps any.

The diaphragm is under the battery.

It may also be the locking gears themselves in the front axle. This summer I replaced my front axle but I replaced the gears that lock the two halves of the axle together before I installed the donor axle(I bought them brand new for an original problem but ended up replacing whole axle), and the ones I replaced would slip together but were slightly rounded and needed some persuasion (if you keep your foot on the gas while trying to engage 4x4 over time this happens) it isn't the most difficult thing but I would start looking at the cable and diaphragm.

i worded the question wrong i guess. what am i looking for exactly under the battery. pics would be great.
