Default 700R4 won't engage park or reverse

Hi guys, I've searched for info on this but I can't find a thread with the exact same issues. About 2 months ago, I lost the park gear in my 88 K5 blazer. Since its a Plow truck, I didn't worry much since I could just drop the plow and leave it on level ground. Then while plowing last week, I lost reverse gear suddenly. When I shift into park or reverse, nothing happens and the engine doesn't engage or have a slight change in RPMs like usual. I'm afraid of testing the forward gears because of where the truck got stuck. I'd be in the middle of a small dead end road with an unregistered truck. If anyone has any thoughts, I could start troubleshooting it. And if I HAD to go forward, at least I would know what I was looking for. Thanks for the help!

Well it only goes into park by moving a rod that pushes a lever into the teeth of the park gear. Something there is probably broke. Loss of reverse can be a few things. You should probably just plan on rebuilding or replacing the transmission.

I had a feeling a full transmission rebuild was on the way, but I was hoping i was missing something obvious like a broken linkage, etc. Once some more snow melts, I'll go back under and make sure everything looks normal, at least externally. I'll post again on this thread if I find anything!

It could be a linkage issue with the shift cable or a nut that could come loose and cause the linkage arm to come loose. I failed to mention that before. If you drop the pan it will be on the drivers side in the front.
