Default Misfiring, Smell of gas, bogs down after driving

the gas smell is at the tail pipe
the car will bog down and want to die after driving for a little bit
the car is constantly misfiring, and it is most prominent at 2 - 4k RPM
the engine shakes a lot, and will backfire too when revved up

I also believe there is a constant ticking after driving a bit before it dies

someone please help

What are ya drivin'?

Are there any codes present or pending?

My gut feeling based solely upon your description is that you have a restricted catalytic converter.

there are codes, but I cant pull them.

I pulled the front OT sensor and the car seems to act the same, minus the increase in sound, havent been able to drive it long enough to see if it dies yet

ok, took it to a chevy dealer here, charged me $80 for a diagnosis, and wants to charge me another $160 to take off the upper intake plenum to check for leaks, should I assume that they found that the leak is in the engine and in that case the only thing that can be leaking is the spider assembly/nut kit?

I dont want to pay $160 for something that would take me 5 - 10 minutes to do, nor do I want them to charge me upwards of $1200 to replace a $300 part...

advice?

Sounds similar to a problem i had. Turned out to just be a bad cap and rotor. I would inspect them VERY well.
