91 4wd chevy blazer transmission swap... help!!

hi all...i am new to the whole forum thing so i am sorry if this question has been asked before..but i have a 1991 chevy blazer 4x4 4.3 v6 and the transmission won't shift into 3rd....so i went yesterday and bought a 97 4wd 4l60e with the converter and transfer case for 250. and i have a 30 day warranty....my question is will this transmission work in my 91?....i havent taken the transmission out of the 91 yet because i wanna make sure it will swap out with the 97 any and all help would be greatly appreciated....

Not a chance without A LOT of rework. Two completely different transmissions. Your truck has the 700R4 (4L60). It is a non-electric transmission.

well thats just how my luck goes....omg r u serious...i have wanted a blazer for a very long time...finally get one....get it running and it don't wanna go into 3rd...get another tranny and what happens??....DENIED...lol....is there a quicker way to talk to you other than the forum?

now i kno this might be a stupid question:icon_doh: but i am going to ask anyway...i am looking around on craigslist and most 700r4 transmissions are for 2wd vehicles...can i use a 2wd tranny if i attach the needed parts from my original tranny?...like the transfer case or w/e i may need thanks in advance for your help

On the 700R4/4L60/4L60E, you have to gut the transmission (pull everything out from the front) to swap tail shafts in order to convert from 2wd to 4wd.

sounds like to much work for me...lol...i found a 1990 4wd tranny just like mine but the fellow wants 350...he told me i should change the filter in the tranny i have first and see if that fixes my problem (i doubt it will) because everything i've looked up about the tranny not shifting into 3rd seems to be a common problem and usually means the 3 gear is worn out...but then again it just might be the filter because it seems to me that the previous owner never really done anything to the blazer...not sure but i believe the spark plug wires was stock when i changed them...so all they probably did was put gas in it and change the oil...any thoughts?....i thank you kyle for all the help u have given me...and u are quick to respond...i think i like the whole form thing...lol...lot better than google..haha Thanks Travis

3rd gear does wear out on them pretty easy, ive done it to 2 blazers, with 4.3s, but those motors did not have an easy life.

ok check it out you guys....just took the tranny pan off...which was a !@#$% to do but i got it... looked inside the pan...NO METAL SHAVINGS NO BROKEN PLASTIC...just black transmission fluid...and the magnet had THICK goo on it...but no metal shavings or plastic...so maybe just maybe (fingers crossed) if i change the filter it might just work like it is supposed to (not getting my hopes up) but i will def update this thread when i get the pan back on and see what it does for me...

**UPDATE**

ok got the pan back on yesterday went down the road...shifts good in first...ok....shifts good to second...wait for it..moment of truth....HIGH REV... DENIED AGAIN SUCKA....HAHA...so the filter didnt work....now i gotta save money to go buy a 350 transmission that has a 30-day warranty and the guy says it works but i dont kno if it works or not...like i said it has a 30day warranty but i have got to drop my tranny..(which will be my first)...then swap then trannys out...so i will update when i get all that done.....
