Couple of things.
White smoke, as in a big ass cloud?
White smoke inditcates you leaking head/intake gasket or cracked block, one is repairable the other is terminal, as in you must replace the engine. The head/intake gasket can be replaced and everything will work great again, provided you didnt crack the block when the head/intake gasket blew. The white smoke is your radiator fluid turning into steam in the engine and exhausting as steam out your tailpipe.

Second, gas shouldnt be coming from your tail pipe, ever. Especially on the highway, your catalytic converter should be so hot that any gas in the exhaust system will burn in the cat, and damage your cat to the point you must replace it. That leads me to believe you have a gas leak. Finding that leak could be a challenge.

Are you going to fix this yourself? If so, post up and we can offer tips and tricks to make it easier.
