95 4L60E Problem
I am working on a 95 Chevy Blazer w/ the 4L60E Transmission. I haven't looked at it yet, but it's supposely won't shift out of first gear, still has reverse (first thing i asked...lol) so the sunshell gear isn't broke. I haven't checked it out because our schedules haven't allowed us to get together so i can take a look at it, but what are your thoughts.
Thanks
JoJo
Thanks

well the blazer will shift from 1st to 2nd, but nothing higher then that, just slips.

Here is a diagnosis for no 2-3 shift or sluggish/hunting hope it helps.

is there anyway to test any of this or should I just replace the tranny. Another question, how often does this happen to these tranny's, i am gonna get one from the junk yard, bt the last 4L60E tranny I put in a blazer it had the same problem as before (no reverse, shifting,. etc... = Broken SunShell Gear) is this something I should be worried about with getting a used tranny?
also when i called the 1 junkyard they said that this tranny in this blazer (95) was only available for this year and they didn't have one but I located a couple at a couple different yards, is this true or was he mistaken?

Solenoid failures are not all that common, but sometimes the bores can wear and leak past. Sun shell failures are quite a bit more common, but with the production figures on these transmissions, the percentage of failures is still quite low.
The junkyard is right. Your transmission is unique as are the 96-97. Your transmission does not have a pulse width modulated signal for the TCC (torque converter clutch) apply solenoid nor the provisions for it in the transmission. I am not sure how a later 96-97 transmission would work in your application. The 98+ have removable bell housings so those are out. The only direct application is a 95.
