95 blazer with 5tad-what else fits?

i have a 95 full size blazer, trans is a 4L60E with the code 5tad. i need a used one and can't find another 95 blazer in the area. I am wondering if anything else will fit.

I have been told that the 95 was a beast all unto itself and i have to get a trans from another 95 due to changes in the number of fins in the front mount pump.

the dealer was unable to tell me if anything else will fit, like a 5mdd that comes in an astro.

anyone have any experience with this? i did find one other post saying that only a 5tad will work but no details. thanks.

Any 2wd 4l60e should work it just that 96 up changed to a removable bellhousing and the cooler lines changed from flare fittings to push in style 97 up were also called PWM it is stamped on the front pump,I think you jump a wire for the PWM on the trans connector to work in a 96 back.
Here is a site that say you have use your internal harness and two solenoids.

thanks for the info. a few more questions. my blazer is awd, but i am thinking there should be no difference in the trans itself, rather the difference is the addition of a transfer case?. is this a correct assumption?

my blazer is stock 95 full size (not s10) and has pwm stamped on the front pump. (btw, what does pwm stand for?) from your reply it seems that style pump started in 96? i am trying to determine if the trans has been changed once already. i bought this used so don't know the history.

finally, do you know of a site that explains concepts like stall speed and lock up? my local trans shop told me that a 4l60e out of an astro would be tuned differently, and i guess that is why it is a 5mdd and not a 5tad. i am trying to understand what differences i would have if i use an astro trans because i can get a trans out of a 95 astro awd. thanks alot. this is my first venture into auto transmissions.
