95 Blazer trans stays in overdrive and skips second gear
Hello all, I am attempting to repair a 95 Blazer I just purchased for my Mother-in-law. I am a Master tech but I am looking for a second opinion. THe vehicle drives perfect except it skips second gear, then after it shifts into overdrive and you slow to a stop, it stays locked up in overdrive until you shift the selector into first gear. Then you can put it back into drive or shift manual. It will still skip second. My diagnosis at this point is a solinoid possibly the 2-3 shift or lock up solinoid malfunction. THere is a code but I have not pulled it yet. Just got it today.
Has anyone experienced this with a solid fix? I have run into this before on passenger cars with a lock up solinoid but I do not remember them skipping second. |
I was unable to find symptoms exactly as you stated in the symptoms diagnosis of my 4L60E ATSG manuals.

What positions do you have for the shift lever for forward gears (OD, 3, 2, 1)? |
Thanks, I have 1,2,3,OD. If I start in 2 maual it stays in forst and never shifts to second. Same if I downshift from 3 to 2, goes to 1st. I pulled valve body today and started testing solenoids.

Hey schreckman, Have you had any luck yet. I'm having almost Identical symptoms on my 97.... Manual 1st is good, no 2nd and seems to want to take off from a start in 3rd if I just put it in drive. Once I'm moving all seems fine.
